We are in the middle of a renaissance of cocktail culture. If you like to drink and like experimenting with new and different recipes, now is a great time for you. Be Better Guys always advocate having a good drink from time to time and offers two new cococtions, courtesy of the bar staff at PS 7's Restaurant. Both of these drinks were presented as part of the Caution -- Men Cooking! classes co-hosted by BBG and PS 7's. Both are really simple, with easy to find liquors. All you need is a reason to make up a batch. We're sure you can figure that one out.
Hunter cocktail
Most hunting seasons take place in autumn and with the chillier weather, you are going to want a great drink to warm you up from the inside out. This lowball cocktail has the hunter in mind, what with bourbon, brandy, and a hint of cherry, it's a perfect way to relax after a day of hiking thought the woods, or staking out a deer trail, or making sure your fantasy football QB hasn't blown out his knee for the season, frustrating his pop music girlfriend and fans (his, not hers).
Pour bourbon, Luxardo, brandy, into a cocktail shaker over ice. Squeeze the lime into the shaker and shake vigorously. Strain into a high-ball glass over fresh ice, garnish with cherries. Faux Naturelle
consider this the one you make when you're feeling the fire just can't get hot enough. It's early in the season, could be raining, the Packers are winning (Brett who?) and there's snow on the mountains far north and west. Green tea, honey, gin, lime, and orange -- it's the deceptive ingredients that pull a reverse on "easy going." Vary the amount of green tea and lime to taste, since some green teas are stronger than others. The drink is good either hot or cold. Serve hot in a mug, cold in a cocktail glass.
For the cold version: Add gin, green tea, simple syrup to a shaker over ice. Squeeze lime in to shaker and shake it like you mean it. In a chilled cocktail glass, add a thinly sliced wheel of orange, twisted like a pinwheel. Strain into cocktail; the orange should unfold like the petals of a flower. For the hot version: Add gin, simple syrup, and honey into a mug. Prepare green tea to taste separately. Pour steeped green tea into mug. Add lime to taste.
Two great cocktails to add to your repertoire. For more cocktails, check out our Home Bar recommendations.
