Most wine lists you’ll come across will feature the following grapes
(in order from lightest to fullest in body and color): Pinot Noir,
Merlot, Zinfandel, Syrah/Shiraz, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Choose wines
that are relatively young and can match well with food or drink well on
their own. So you’ll know what to buy when you’re entertaining or when
you’re at the restaurant, we’ve provided the basics of red wine:
Reds That Drink Well on Their Own: Opt for lighter or medium
grapes like Pinot Noir or Merlot when choosing a red wine you can drink
on its own, either at a party, mid-afternoon or before dinner.
While these go well with the right foods, they aren’t
overpowering. We recommend the following:
-
Walnut Creek Merlot (Chile)
-
Jacobs Creek Merlot (Australia)
-
Echelon Pinot Noir (U.S.)
-
Pepperwood Pinot Noir (U.S.)
-
Estancia Pinot Noir (U.S.)
