SG: Colors and textures. My wife (Marjut) is a seamstress and fashion designer and I enjoy listening to hear speak about fashion. Initially, I fashioned a look of my fashion since (particularly my business fashion) after my grandfather – for whom I’m named. When my grandmother passed, I received my grandfather’s cufflink collection. So, I began build to a business wardrobe around antique cufflinks initially. My clothing has clean classic lines, but I would always find a subtle way to add an edge. One of my favorite things was to have my wife create an ethnic vest that I would intersperse with my business suits.
BBG: What or who introduced you to style? What prompted to you seek it out?
SG: As I mentioned before, my grandfather was always very clean. Although he died while I was relatively young, I’ve seen him in family photos all over the place. My father was always very clean put together. My wife has also introduced me to a lot of fashion and prompted quite a few discussions.
BBG: Is how people look important to you? Why?
SG: Unfortunately, I still have to say yes. Most often first impressions are the most lasting ones to stay with us. It may be as basic as relating to someone who looks like you or at least exhibits characteristics similar to your own (of which dress is one such characteristic). Whenever I meet a new client, I make sure that I’m dressed to impress.
BBG: Do clothes make the man or do manners make the man?
SG: I would have to say I feel manners or personality make the man. Someone who is confident and poised we come across as polished and stylish, regardless of what they are wearing. But, once you see that same person dressed up; they will truly leave an impression.
BBG: What sort of behavior do you see too much of and what would say to young men about it?
SG: There seems to be very little respect for ourselves and women. The way we carry ourselves, speak about or to one another, have respect for ourselves and others projects an image, either positive or negative.
BBG: What unique tip(s) can you give a guy to help make him a Better Guy?
SG: Stand for something greater than yourself. It’ll make your life decisions a lot easier and give you a purpose to push through difficult times when you have them. Surround yourself with smart, focused, and driven people who care about themselves and others. They will push you and you can push them to be the best that you all can be.
BBG: What makes a guy stand out?
SG: Confidence and comfort with himself.
BBG: If you could do one thing, anywhere in the world without constraints, what would it be?
SG: Good question, I haven’t figured that one out yet.
BBG: If you could have a conversation with one person, who would it be?
SG: John the Baptist. I’d be really curious what it was like to be related to arguably one of the most important figures in history and to learn what Jesus was like from his perspective.
BBG: What’s your favorite room in your place? Why?
SG: Our front parlor, I can see the world and interact with it, or not as I choose to.
BBG: What do you do/where do you go for fun?
SG: I go bicycling on the Monon trail in Indianapolis. Spending time at museums with my family is always fun, also.
BBG: Who's your favorite band?
SG: I don’t have a favorite band.
BBG: Monica Belluci or Gong Li?
SG: I’m sorry, Monica Belluci is fine. And don’t forget she played Mary Magdalen. That’s kinda wild to me.
