According to the Vision Council of America, 4 in 5 men wear glasses, either out of necessity or, and we do not condone this, for effect.If you're one of the latter -- well, good luck with that. For those of you who need them, shape, color, and material are the key components when choosing eyeglass frames. Simple shapes make the most sense, as you will probably have these frames for the next several years.There are many stylish frames available as eyeglasses have taken a cue from their sun-loving brethren and become more fashionable. Be Better Guys: Do girls make passes at guys who wear glasses?Eyeglass Shape/Fit

The shape and fit of the frame in relation to your face can make or break your look. The general thinking is to buy frames to complement your face's shape and that are in proportion to your head. Therefore:

A round face – angular, narrow frames work best,
but any other frame that is wider than it is tall is good, also.  Avoid round or square frames that accentuate the roundness of your face.

An oval face – virtually all frames can fit an oval or egg-shaped face.  You should experiment to find the style which best suits your look.

A square face – go for frames that are slightly taller to add length to your face. Round or oval frames are in play. Additionally, narrow styles with a slight curve to them work well to minimize the blockhead effect.

A triangular face (wide forehead and narrow, pointed chin) — frames that add width
below the eyeline can minimize a wide forehead and high cheekbones. Opt for frames that are wider at the bottom or that have rounded tops and squared bottoms.

A diamond-shaped face (narrow forehead and chin, wider cheeks or temples) -- frames in small geometric or oval shapes will minimize the width between your temples.

Color/Material

While you can choose some outlandish colors for frames, we suggest you go with colors and materials that complement your hair color and face shape. This is pretty easy:

The darker the color, the more noticeable the frames  will be, and the more they will accentuate the shape of your face;

For those that want to downplay the shape of your face,
lighter colors, metals, or rimless frames (the arms and bridge are hinged to the lenses) are the answer.

Plastic frames are more durable and are typically less expensive.

Rimless frames are very lightweight, flexible, and not as fragile as they appear.

Wire frames are a classic look that can be updated by choosing a pair that are rimmed just along the top of the frames.

The folks at the optometrist or eyeglass shop can help you with the specifics but don't lie about your prescription. The prescription is the most important thing here, not what you look like.
In an effort to look more intelligent at the university library,young David had his folks buy him a pair of very large, round black horn-rimmed reading glasses to wear over his contacts.  Now he couldn't successfully study in public anyway, what with all the girls running around the library, but damned if he didn't look bookish (or at least like a cross between a startled owl and a near-sighted chimp).   Maybe that's why no girls talked to him.
