Be Better Guys: Shirting the issueYour dress shirts can do double duty after 5 pm, but you'll want some shirts strictly for non-work hours. They can be long- and short-sleeve collared shirts as well as polo-style shirts. 10 should do the trick. Here are the following tips to keep in mind when looking for casual shirts:
Look for colors and patterns. A bold pattern or unexpected color can make a personal statement. Patterns can be a positive, making you look modern and cool. But be careful, because patterns can show off things you may not want known. Like stripes? So do we, but horizontal striped shirts can make you look wider than you are, so if you have "the mature man's physique," stick to solid colors.

Pink will not hurt you, compromise your masculinity, or infer anything other than you're tired of blue or white shirts. It's a good change of pace and let's face it, women like it. We like women, so enough said.

Try different fabrics other than 100% cotton -- linen, ramie, and blends of those fabrics work best for warm days. Wool is reserved for fall and winter shirts and silk, as sexy as it is, is much warmer than you think.

For warmer weather, pick up a few short sleeve shirts. There are all kinds of short sleeve shirts, from bowling to safari. Any shirt with a relaxed collar (no collar stays or buttons), a generous fit (but not blousy), and squared off at the bottom (a sign that a shirt can be left un-tucked) means after work and weekends.

An alternative is the polo shirt we all know and love. They come in all types of colors and fabrics. We don't recommend wearing polos all the time, but they can bridge the gap between business casual and non-work attire, plus can be layered beneath sweaters and jackets.

When you want shirts to wear on evenings out or other non-work occasions, choose something with more traditional tailoring. Keep it trim in the torso, with cuffs reaching the heels of your hands, and a well-established collar, but without collar stays or buttons.

There are incriminating photos out there of Brian...

wearing a pink polo with the collar flipped up beneath an oxford shirt and he hereby offers a handsome bounty for anyone who can produce them with the negatives.
