Your Face Face it: Shaving

Be Better Guys: Face offWe aren't the first to coin the phrase "your face is your business card," we're just the first to remind you. Taking care of your face by sticking to a regular cleaning regimen will keep your face looking younger longer. You shave almost every day, which strips the skin and leaves your face feeling burnt and irritated. There are products specifically designed to protect your face. You need to own a few of these products.  Your face will thank you, as will that woman you call a girlfriend/wife/mistress.  Keeping your face clean and free of nicks, cuts, bumps, and burns is easy and affordable. Each of these products costs roughly the price of a glass of bourbon.

Cleansing

It may not seem like it, but your face takes a pretty good beating from the elements and the environment.  It needs proper care. The following products will help protect, cleanse, moisturize, and replenish your face with essential vitamins, of course depending on your skin type. The first three steps should be done every morning and night (and take approximately 60-90 seconds to perform) and you can use the face scrub a couple times a week for a deeper cleansing.  And, while you're at it, clean out your ears:

A face wash will clean excess oil, prevent acne, and remove dirt. It comes in gel, bar, or foam. Use face wash because the soap that you use to wash your body is too harsh and drying to use on your face, actually doing more harm than good.

Use toner, an alcohol-free, mild astringent, that deep-cleans oil and dirt from your pores without stinging or drying (particularly helpful for men who have trouble with ingrown hairs and shaving bumps). Apply with a cotton ball.

Face lotion protects your face from getting dry and looking old. Find one that works with your skin type and has SPF sun protection.

Facials: Many guys feel facials are not manly. We disagree: facials deal with stuff your regular regimen can't, such as underlying acne, blackheads, and hidden crud you don't want to know about.  Ranging from $60 to upwards of $200, we recommend getting at least one a year, as finances allow.

Face scrub uses mineral particles (almost like a creamy sandpaper) to slough off dead skin cells and oils. Exfoliants can be harsh, so go easy on working it in and only use it every few days.  You're cleaning your face, not erasing it.

Use cotton swabs. Do yourself a favor and clean your ears with actual Q-Tips brand, because we've used cheaper ones and a Phillips-head screwdriver was gentler. Clean the folds of the ear, but don't jam it into the ear canal.
