Thomas is looking to up his game and wants to move forward on a tie pin.  Good idea or no?  Read on....

Q:  Hey, Guys, what are your thoughts on tie pins?  I’m thinking of moving in that direction but wanted some advice before I do.

A:  Thomas, tie pins (and tie bars) are a bold statement. It ups the ante on the entire look you're working, like wearing a pocketsquare or carrying a pocketwatch, and when wearing a tie pin, you have to look impeccable. Whereas we wouldn't recommend one for every day, for dressier occasions,  it can make for a nice touch. It can't compete with the tie for attention and we feel it should be smaller than a dime. Leave the insignia (military, fraternal, etc) or logo pins at home and keep precious gems and other extraneous bling to a minimum.  Same goes for those of you considering a tie bar.  Less is more.
