Courtney's boyfriend is buff. Good for Courtney. But getting his clothes to fit properly is not working out good for Courtney. The Guys have some suggestions.... Q: Hey guys! Just saw you on NBC news. Awesome job. So, my boyfriend is the muscle man type... Super broad/large shoulders and a very thin waste. I don't have any idea where to get him clothes that will fit! The big and tall stores are short on fashion sense. Any suggestions? Thanks! Courtney A: Hi, Courtney, David here – so you like us on TV, do you? Sounds like your boyfriend's built a lot like me...hahaha. Ok, maybe not. But I do have a drop from my shoulders to my waist of about 8 to 10 inches (depending on how much dinner I eat before I go buy a suit) so here are a couple of options I recommend: 1) Have custom suits and shirts made specifically for his body. Problem is, that can get expensive (like $1,200 and up expensive for the suits; $350 and up for set of three shirts). I have three custom shirts and one custom suit and they fit unlike any of my other clothes. Pick and choose wisely which pieces you want to invest in because it adds up fast. 2) Do what I do - I buy a suit that fits in the shoulders and chest, and I take it to my tailor and have him take the suit apart and trim it down so it fits my body cleanly. I have purchased a few major-label suits and sportjackets at discount department stores for cheap, then when I take them over to my tailor, he gets the suits to fit like custom for about 1/3 of the price. When it comes to casual clothes, that's tougher because most folks don't take jeans, khakis or sweaters to a tailor. However casual clothes can have a looser drape on a guy’s frame and still look appropriate, whereas an oversized suit makes you look like David Byrne, circa 1986.
