Be Better Guys: David BorisDavid's pursuit toward being a better guy began during the summer after college, when he took two consecutive trips with buddies that opened his eyes to the better life - one to Europe and one to Manhattan. It was on those trips that David began to see the next level of living - guys who had style, worldliness, coolness, women. So upon returning home, he began reading magazines like GQ and Esquire to educate himself on how to be "that guy."

Now just because someone reads how to be "that guy" doesn't mean that he can actually do it. Through some successes and a whole lot of failures, David refined his knowledge and defined his own personality and style. Soon friends and colleagues began to ask David the sort of questions guys rarely ask each other:  "Nice suit, where'd you get that?" or "How'd you learn to make that drink?" Recognizing there is little if any “how-to” information geared toward regular guys, the concept of Be Better Guys was born - creating a place for guys to go to find out how to make better choices on how to look, act and live.

Being a better guy has led David into a career as a successful executive for Fortune 200 software companies.  He has moved from doing business operational analysis to a lead sales position at one of the largest software companies in the industry. On weekends, David and his family deliver meals for a D.C.-based organization that provides care for homebound families with HIV/AIDS and cancer.  He is married with two children.

Before Be Better Guys, David led the popular band, Congregation, as the lead singer, guitarist, principal songwriter, manager, head cook, and back-up power forward. Congregation played to many thousands throughout the East Coast on bills with groups such as Everclear, De La Soul, the Isley Brothers, Third Eye Blind, and Robert Randolph. He also played NCAA Division I baseball and maintains a passion for wine, music, the Wizards (Bullets), dogs, books, the Redskins, vintage sports cars, art, the Nationals, and napping…not necessarily in that order.

David blogs at Better Than a Beatdown so keep up with his many interests, thoughts and rants.

  • For the love of God, stop picking your nose in public! What’s wrong with you?!
  • Wipe down your sink with a rag after you shave, in case she comes over to use it after your date.
  • Cuffs on jeans look very J.V.
  • Your toes – potentially nasty territory. Keep ‘em clipped and free of lint.
  • Got some really old food in the fridge or freezer? Thought so. Toss it, today.

Be Better Guys: Tom Collins RecipeIt’s an older drink – chances are your grandparents had these on summer vacation – but the mix of gin, lemon, and sugar, with a splash of soda, packs more punch than a standard gin and tonic.  Adjust the recipe to your taste and enjoy with your favorite drinking buddy.
