David's pursuit toward being a better guy began during the summer after college, when he took two consecutive trips with buddies that opened his eyes to the better life - one to Europe and one to Manhattan. It was on those trips that David began to see the next level of living - guys who had style, worldliness, coolness, women. So upon returning home, he began reading magazines like GQ and Esquire to educate himself on how to be "that guy."

Brian Joyner, co-creator of Be Better Guys, spent a great deal of time (money
and other people’s patience) trying to figure out what he wanted to be
when he grew up. Now that he’s arrived (depending on whom you ask), he
smiles at how much fun the trip was. He absorbed the lessons he learned
from family, friends, and through observations in the service industry
and used them to craft his personal take on style and how life is.
Throughout it all, Brian figured that regardless of what you do, you
should look and act the way you wanted to be perceived. Since he’d
already been giving this advice to anyone willing to listen, it
seemed natural for him to partner with David Boris to develop Be Better
