Ahead of spring, Allen-Edmonds is breaking from their traditional black, brown and cordovan footwear to join the ranks of Cole Haan, Kenneth Cole and others with bright-colored wingtips – the unconstructed Neumok. These bold, lived-in looking brogues look a lot like the A-E wingtips you probably wear every day to the office. The difference here is that, in keeping with a concerted push for men to feel comfortable wearing bolder colors, these shoes are strictly for evenings and weekends, unless you work at a start-up and want to show some more fashion beyond a Teva sandal.
The leather is very supple, the uppers are unlined leather, and we checked out a few pairs at our local A-E store here in D.C. They’re sharp as hell. And they’re tough as hell, too, in keeping with the Allen-Edmonds tradition: a double leather butyl sole in with a burnished edging and Goodyear welt construction. You can’t kill these things. Wear them with jeans, khakis, cords, wool flannels. Take care of them, your son will want them one day. $250 at Allen Edmonds stores and allenedmonds.com.
