Darren in Denver sent us a note asking The Guys a simple, yet highly complex, question:
“I’m a pretty stylish guy but I don’t have any shoes specifically for fall and winter that look cool on a date or even at work. Any advice for a great shoe for fall?”

Varvatos Chelsea Boots
The Guys: Darren, here’s why that’s simple – you have a lot of options. You can go suede, you can go lace-up boots, you can to with dark-brown wingtips or suede loafers and look great. And that is why it’s complex. Because there’s all kinds of directions you can go. So to simplify it, my ultimate fall shoe isn’t a shoe. It’s a boot. A Chelsea boot, or jodhpur. The same boots The Beatles used to wear. Here’s why I like them: they look cool with jeans, they look cool with khakis, and with the right shoe and the right dark, trim-cut suit, they work at the office. They work everywhere.
And I particularly like them because most guys won’t wear them. They stand out…in a very understated, cool way. You can wear them to the club. You can wear them to kick leaves on a Sunday downtown with your girl. Two places I wouldn’t wear them – the football game or to a job interview. Not right for either. Everything else? Completely in play.
Found these Varvatos Chelsea boots on Zappos.com for $300. I mean, you step out in these and you own the room. What more do you need than boots that have style, authority and taste. Sure, they’re $300. They used to be $450. You got a deal!
