The drink is decidedly simple to make and very refreshing. The name supposedly comes from an old brand of Scotch that’s no longer around. Regardless, it’s a nice alternative to gin and tonic on a hot day. While you can make this with gin, I like the whiskey, which is sometimes hard on a body during the dog days of summer. It’s a sipping drink for end-of-the-day conversations on the patio or a good option for a long afternoon.
Remsen Cooler
* 2 oz Scotch (the brand of your choice)
* 2 oz Club soda
* Ice cubes
* Long twist of Lemon Peel
* 1/2 teaspoon of powdered sugar (fine table sugar will work also)
In a Collins glass, add the sugar and soda until dissolved. Toss in the lemon peel and muddle against the side of the glass. Add ice and Scotch, then top off with soda.

Looks very refreshing.
Does it have a strong scotch taste to it? or is it masked from the rest of the mixture?
Schmidty:
It doesn’t have a strong taste. The soda and sugar mellow the whiskey taste to something acceptable even for the non-whiskey drinker. You’ve love it.
